The mRNA boundaries are calculated using the gene's default feature set from NCBI, mapped onto the UCSC Golden Path. PharmGKB sets gene boundaries by expanding the mRNA boundaries by no less than 10,000 bases upstream (5') and 3,000 bases downstream (3') to allow for potential regulatory regions.

The glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are responsible for the detoxification of a range of drugs and potential carcinogens through glutathione conjugation. GSTP1 is within the Pi-class of the GST isoforms [Articles:8770536, 11535245]. Two common polymorphisms in GSTP1 have been described, both of which cause amino acid changes in the electrophile-binding active site of the enzyme [Article:9092542]. Associations with toxicity and outcome have been shown for GSTP1 polymorphisms and several anti-cancer drugs, particularly platinum agents.
